On Monday, April 21st, WAB celebrated its annual Earth Day, a vibrant day of sustainability, reflection, and reconnection with Mother Earth. As always, ProFarmer was at the heart of the celebration, sharing its mission and values with the wider WAB community and encouraging a collective appreciation for environmental stewardship and hands-on learning.
This year, ProFarmer members led several interactive activities centered around sustainable agriculture. Highlights included a visit to our partner, HaoHua Organic Farm, the creation of a flower garden using upcycled materials, and a thoughtful farm design challenge.
The day began at 8:40 a.m., when a group of 9th grade students and their 4th grade buddies took a short walk from campus to HaoHua Farm. There, they got their hands dirty tilling the soil and planting baby cabbage seedlings in their own plots. For many, this hands-on farming work was their first first-hand encounter with the world of agriculture at its roots (literally), a valuable, grounding experience that connected them with the origins of the food we eat.

Back on campus, the flower garden activity gave new life to used plastic bottles, which were transformed into decorative planters. After decorating the bottles, students planted seeds in them and placed the colorful pots around Duck Lake, adding beauty to the environment while promoting the principles of sustainability.

Another engaging initiative was the farm design simulation. With limited budgets, land space, and water resources, students were challenged to build their own farms using a chart that listed crops, their costs, benefits, and water needs. This activity sparked meaningful discussion and critical thinking, as participants realized how resource-intensive farming can be, especially the surprising water demands of different crops. It was a fun and eye-opening way to experience the complexity of agricultural planning.
Overall, Earth Day 2025 was a meaningful and memorable event that reinforced our shared dedication to biodiversity, sustainable practices, and environmental education. As always, ProFarmer is proud to help cultivate the next generation of eco-conscious thinkers and doers.
Think green. Act green.
