About FROOT
Nestled in the rolling outskirts north of Beijing, FROOT Farm is more than just a patchwork of greenhouses and fields—it’s a living testament to the passion of Bayan Changizi, his family, and a close-knit circle of friends. United by a shared vision of sustainable agriculture, they’ve transformed this once-sleepy suburban plot into a thriving homestead offering everything from vibrant bok choy and fragrant garlic chives to farm-fresh eggs and golden honey.
What We Did
Arriving just after 1:30 PM on a crisp spring afternoon, we were greeted by Bayan and his parents with a quick tour of the farm along with tea and some snacks.
Greenhouse Insights

We peered into a temperature-controlled greenhouse where rows of seedlings bask under supplemental lighting—proof that even Beijing’s coldest winters can’t halt FROOT’s year-round harvest.
Shortly after discussing future plans, they offered to let us try out some of the work that they did:
Poultry & Small Livestock
Chickens, geese, and rabbits freely roamed their pens. With feed in hand, we experienced the simple delight of tossing grains to a flock of eager (if slightly indifferent) hens and a trio of proud roosters.

Beekeeping Demo

Though FROOT currently maintains a single hive—an intentional choice to ensure high-quality care—we had a chance to open it up and take a look inside. By burning dry grass, it created a smoke that calmed the bees and allowed us to open up the beehive and “intrude” without getting stung.
Hands-On Harvest
Our final stop was back in the greenhouse, where we hand-picked an assortment of organic vegetables to take home—an authentic farm-to-table moment that left everyone smiling.

Future Plans
Fueled by the success of our visit, FROOT Farm is gearing up to expand its community offerings:
Mystery Produce Bags: Launching soon alongside their sought-after Jinpoluo eggs, these mixed-bag bundles will deliver an ever-changing assortment of freshly harvested vegetables directly to customers.
Educational Farm Visits: In collaboration with WAB (Western Academy of Beijing), the farm plans to host after-school and weekend excursions—inviting students to get their hands dirty, learn sustainable practices, and foster a deeper connection to the land.
Beehive Expansion: Eager to support FROOT’s growing honey production, our team will assist in building and maintaining one or two additional hives, amplifying both yield and biodiversity on the farm.
Cultivating a Greener Future

FROOT Farm exemplifies how small-scale agriculture can blend tradition, innovation, and community engagement. As they prepare to roll out new sales initiatives and educational programs, FROOT invites everyone—neighbors, students, and food enthusiasts—to join in crafting a more sustainable, interconnected food system. To stay updated on mystery-bag releases, school-visit opportunities, or beehive volunteer days, keep an eye on FROOT’s website and social channels.
Together, we can sow the seeds of change—one harvest at a time.
